  • For a minute or so after opening it revealed nothing, but then burst into glorious life: caramel, lemon, melon, vanilla, banana - altogether, strangely and pleasantly reminiscent of banoffee pie! (Not a comparator I've ever thought of before, but it seems very right here.) Full and rich on the palate, with just a touch of heat from the alcohol. Acidity definitely on the wane, as before, but there's still enough, just, to keep it fresh. Big and bold, and a perfect match for seared Orkney scallops in a cream sauce. All in all, a great bottle (two in fact, identical) from one of my Aussie favourites. 14%, screwcap.

  • Attractive light gold. Wow, beautiful nose: sweet oak, caramelised apple...some other fruit...melon? pear?? On the palate: full-flavoured, full-bodied (alcohol an integrated part of that), long, well-balanced. Acidity dropping away a bit now compared to the last bottle I had, hence one point less. Still a superb bottle of wine, by no means past its best. Confirms my belief in Stonier as one of the finest Australian Chardonnay producers, well worth cellaring. Screwcap.

  • Golden straw colour. Powerful nose of pear and green apple. Luscious and full mouthfeel - a touch heavy with the oak, however this is still good juice. Drinking well now.

  • Bright gold. Assertive nose of melon, cashew and vanilla, all of which carry through onto the palate. Excellent acidity, good length. An excellent food wine, and a very classy Chardonnay. Medium bodied, by no means over oaked or over ripe.

  • Butter, pear and oak on the nose. Decent fruit depth on the palate. A step up from the 2004 standard Chardonnay but still not brilliant.
