Perhaps there’s excessive oak, as some below suggested. Earthy, yes. We found it rather oily and with a bitter edge that was not very friendly, and a challenge to match with food — rather like some Condrieus. Consistent results, with little development over three nights.

Ripe fruit, obvious oak; I found it somewhat heavy on the palate. There is acid, but it didn't seem to do as good a job of balancing the sweetness. More demi than sec!
I rather like the Champalou house vouvray with some age on it. But either I got a faulty bottle, or this one is not for me.

Loire Night (San Francisco): Yellow. Ripe orange and obvious oak. Lighter Chenin weight. Just off dry, great acidic drive, lots of soil, and also lots of wood. I found it much too oaky, but others disagreed and enjoyed it more.

Pretty nose--lilac, daisies, rosebud. Serious fruit load up front--apple, pear, citrus--picks up a bit of mineral on the back end. Really nice acidity gives this impressive length. This is just as good out of the fridge as it is at room temp, but morphs along the way. BUY AGAIN.

11/8/2016 - BeadyJay Likes this wine: 90 Points
Promising on the nose, definitely demi-sec and I am surprised it comes in at only 8 g/l.
Flavoursome and rich, in my view it will be better in 3 years. There is real pleasure here, but hard not to think the 2014 will be the wine to buy.
As so often, given some air and coming closer to room temperature it shows a substantial improvement.
