I do think that the 2003 is showing some higher alcohol and ripeness, which is intruding into the aromatics. Found some brewed coffee in the aromatic, too. The 2003 just seems bigger to me, and doesn't have the lovely balance and youth of the 2001.

  Pours bright and young looking, no sign of bricking. The nose shows loads of blackberry and cassis but also has notes of animal fur and pencil shavings and graham cracker. The mouth is equally gorgeous, rich with black fruit, intensely sweet-toned and juicy, and then the tannins grip down on the finish, giving the juicy blackberry flavors wonderful persistence.
  
  The last and best of eight bottles. I wish I had eight more to drink over the next eight to ten years. It ought to last that that long.
