In the past (when I drank them more) I found the higher-end Mark Ryan wines a little big and particularly tannic on release for my tastes, but this is an example of it settling down nicely with some bottle age. Oak was well-integrated and I felt the 5 grapes definitely rounded into a nice blend.
Solid, but a little disappointing given my expectations. It's hard for me to articulate why, as it wasn't really missing anything in particular.

Drinking really nice right now. Would give this about an hour in the decanter to settle down a bit. Big rich and earthy nose. Pretty robust dark fruit and earth and mineral on the palate. Tannins starting to soften but very evident still. This wine can go a bit longer for sure.

Oh my. It’s elementary school in a glass. Varnish, graphite, and pink eraser. That’s the nose. The palate is insanely rich and spicy. Delicious. But Cabernet grapes? Huh. Petit Verdot over the top. But only 6%. Huh. Anyway. Yum. But big. REALLY big.

(Mark Ryan Winery Dead Horse Red Wine Red Mountain) Dark ruby. An extremely aromatically appealing wine with dark fruit, currants, mineral notes, high toned milk chocolate, and floral notes. The palate is full of red and blue fruit flavors bringing both elegance and brawn – though its Long Haul littermate is bigger. A beautifully long finish. Has the legs to go the distance in the cellar. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 11% Malbec, and 6% Petit Verdot. Ciel du Cheval, Klipsun, and Obelisco vineyards. Aged in French oak (76% new). 14.7% alcohol. 850 cases produced.
