The fragrance is intense: honeysuckle, geraniums, and petrichor (like a wet pavement on a warm Spring day just after it rained) on the nose. On the palate, I get lots of honey with ripe tangerine, passion fruit, mango, ripe peach, pinapple, golden kiwi, golden raisons, and apricot along with some herbal flavors of tarragon, anise, bitter almond pit, and geranium. The fruit flavors tend towards tropicsal and there’s even a touch of coconut oil on the finish. Lots of slate and wet stone too. This has a salty mineral finish, which is really nice. Just a touch of cucumber and sorell on the finish, which I really love in Rieslings and it’s perfect here. Viscous texture, though I’d like a touch more acid. This seems like textbook Austrian Riesling and it is very good. It really sparkled on day 2. Superb. This could be a wine of the year.
Good match with walnut and horseradish encrusted Hake and Persian walnut, goat cheese, and herb spread. Match made in heaven with Goldstein’s Roasted Pork with Onion cream sauce and apples. Wow, about as good as a pairing as you could get! I liked it on its own too. I tried it in the Zalto white wine, Grassl Liberte, and Riedel Sommelier Riesling glass and it was about the same in all of them, though I ended up going with the Grassl on day 1 and the Zalto on day 2. This seemed like it was in a good spot, but I think it had plenty of life left too.

10 years after Riesling tasting - 2012 (Restaurant Holz und Feuer, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Sophienwald Universal Clear, medium golden color. There is a huge discussion if FX Pichler had some wine making problems in 2011/2012. This Kellerberg had clear notes of band aid on nose and palate. Other than that it is a very good mineral Wachau Riesling with a beautiful tension and very good balance. Is it flawed? Depends on the view point. I will rate it 91-92

Succulent, intense, very ripe honeyed lychee, apricot and melon, with a little toasted almond and herbs, and a slight petrol note on the finish. This was just bursting with fruit flavors. The honey note made me wonder if there was botrytis on the grapes, but I saw no mention of it in early notes. Typical body and texture for an Austrian riesling, which is to say, rich and a bit oily, with possibly a bit less acid than usual. This was fun.

Medium golden colored. Apricot, white flowers and lychee in the nose. Lemon zest, dried orange, apricot and soft brioche notes on the palate. Medium bodied with a good concentration and an nice medium intense acidity. Simple medium long finish with some petrol notes. A nice and enjoyable Riesling which is already a little past its prime in my opinion - so better drink up soon.

Light gold color. Nose of biscuit, white flowers, apricot, apple core, white pear, and schist. Bursting with vibrant fruit on the palate with layers of lychee, peach, lime, and grapefruit accompanied by significant petrol component. Austere, stony spine. Long finish of white fruit with fresh tartness culminating in stony grip. Big, boisterous wine caught quite young with great bones for future evolution.
