  • Tasted against the 2000 Tablas Creek Espirit de Beaucastle on Easter at a our family’s Easter barbecue. Mont Redon was a a bit tired as others noted and the Tablas, as expected, while faded had more intensity and bolder fruit. Still Mont Redon had more underlying complexity and greater refinement. I like older wines even when faded over fermented grape juice.

  • Initially quite off putting on the nose, alcohol showing heavily. "Is this correct?" I asked, but yes - and better with air, certainly, Grenache whowing with it's deep sweetness. Over the hill, drink up.
Guessed as much as Southern Rhône and Grenache - alas also guesed 2004.

  • Unsure whether to call it flawed, as my friend loved it!

Brownish deep red, somewhat opaque. A: all brett for me, couldn't get past it, along with a bit of heat. F: better than the nose, but these characteristics still coming through. Fruit is there, but fading, leather and pepper and olive. Seems like a drink now, but could be an off bottle.

  • A nice experience, even if this bottle is a little tired. Color is a medium garnet with bricking very visible. On the nose you get elements of stewed fruit, dark cherry with some hint of smoke. The "wobbly" nature of the nose is a telltale sign that the wine is already out of balance somewhat - the fruit elements are pushing everything else away. Nonetheless, a pleasant bottle, though I went a bit back and forth on the finish - it varied over the two hours or so that we drank, but ultimately finishing strong. Good producer, nice value, just a touch over the hill I think.
