  • Good fruit but imbalanced with high alcohol and slightly corked that actually was so mild that resolved with decanting.

  • Decanted 3 hours before enjoying with steak. Very little, flaky sediment. Clear, mid to deep colour, lifting to pink at the rim. Heady nose of violets, toffee, menthol. Instantly appealing although somewhat closed at first. Great mouth feel, powerful but pure and focused fruit supported by refined tannins and acidity. Quite dry on the finish. Very enjoyable.

  • Decanted for two hours before dinner. When I returned the wine to the bottle before taking it to the restaurant, the sediment appeared odd in appearance, almost slimy, so I was concerned. First glass at dinner was very tight and still closed. However, an hour into dinner, and just and as I was having my last few sips, the wine really began to show. Needs at least 4 hours of air at this point in time.

  • Friday Night Double Blind Tasting $40+ (Bin 75): Dark core with orange crimson rim, sediment; classic Nebbiolo, tar, roses, high toned oak, cherry, menthol, mint; classically structured, tannic, some sandalwood; good.

  • Decanted three hours. Enjoyed over the next three. Ruby red core with salmon pink edges and a medium water rim. Raspberry liqueur, stewed strawberries, cut red flowers, and vanilla on the nose. The palate brings fresh strawberries, brandied cherry, sage, and tobacco with a smooth texture and dry wood tannins.

After six hours this still has dry, astringent tannins and a bit of a hot, jammy character for a Barolo. There are some good parts to this one and it may just need a decade or so, but it lacks the layers, elegance, and concentration to be a great one.
