Château Haut-Cadet's 2016 iteration is an opaque ruby blend of 72% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon. Vinturi-decanted and allowed three hours in carafe prior to sampling, it was subsequently serially tasted over a two-hour period. Nicely aromatic, it flaunts a bouquet of Montmorency cherries, cranberries, allspice, tobacco and dried herbs. Medium-bodied, fresh, proportionately oaked and with well-integrated alcohol (listed as 13.5%), it delivers flavors in line with the aromas. Beautifully balanced with medium-weight, silky-textured tannins, it is layered on the mid-palate and finishes with good length. Who says that there is no value in Bordeaux? Enjoy this throughout the remainder of the decade. Drink now-2030.

2+ hour decant. Opened up much more. Tight to begin with. Dark cherry on the nose. More vegetative nose the more it sat. Got much more smooth as time went on. Still medium + tannins, although they came in later, not immediate. Could definitely age a lot longer. Some sediment

Was quite a surprising Bordeaux. Paired with popcorn homemade with truffle salts and Irish butter.
