1998 ROBERT MONDAVI STAGS LEAP DISTRICT NAPA UNFILTERED MERLOT: the nose had such a nice invitation of something good forthcoming; there was a bit of nice spicy red fruit almost mindful of a Pinot Noir with its lighter red style of red raspberry and strawberry; it had at the most, a medium body which along with the mild fruit profile gave it a high degree of elegance; as much as I wanted it to hold on and finish what it started, it dried out at the end; still very pleasing overall.

It has lost most of its former nose but it is drinking very nicely and soft as age has worked its wonders on the tannins. I sure will drink the other bottle i have soon.

Deep clear red ruby colo. I agree its beginning to show its age on the edges. Wonderful red fruit flavors - cranberry, raspberry and cherry with some cedar thrown in for good measure. Tannins nicely resolved letting the fruit shine through. Mouthfeel was medium-to-heavy bodied. Definitely drink up.

Dark ruby color, showing some age at the rim. Medium to dark red fruits and some flowery spice on the nose. Nice acidity and soft tannins. Some life left, but needs to be finished in next year or two.
