  • Opened 4hrs ahead, 2hrs in the decanter. Even still, the nose was pretty closed and the wine felt young. Kids are screaming in the background and you’re trying to catch up with an old friend. Amidst all this you take a sip and the wine just knocks you back in your seat, conversation breaks to a halt. It has that hallmark of great wines, the combination of power, elegance and length. Even though it’s closed and too young, its qualities are obvious: Amazing acidity, a hedonistic red and dark fruit that’s just so…sexy for lack of a better word, but never too much. After rigorous swirling more classic brunello notes, some VA. I would say cellar 3-5yrs more.

  • Concentrated and full, with vibrant, velvety tannins. All things cherry, walnut, plums and granite. Long, and is not reductive but close. Fine acidity to help. Brilliant, but not the typical style, with this being more new world. Enjoyable today, a year or two will help the flow. Drink 2025 -.

  • A glass from enomatic machine. Insanely good nose of iodine notes and red fruits. More of the same in the mouth, fuller mid-palate with more of the sweet/tart red fruits, full throttle on the intensity, super delicious and convincing throughout. 15% alc (?!)

  • Ok, but not at that price point.

  • Chargrilled sweet red cherries and cinnamon spice - nicely tart and tannic.
Day 2 - no substantial difference - remains a lovely fruity and spicy BdM with a bright future. Having gone a case plus into the reg Neri BdM from ‘17 I would rather have 2 bottles of the regular for near and medium term drinking but after a decade this Nuova bottling bottling will more than cover the spread.
