Gorgeous full old burnish gold, almost an orange tint. Good steam of bubbles. Rich and mature on the nose, warm brioche, some ginger and a punch of orange zest. Full and rich on the palate, with energy and some persistence. This has grown old gracefully and has been pretty consistent over two decades. Just the one bottle left now, sadly. ****1/2

SAC: Evening of wines with some duck (Decoy): Served blind and I really thought it could be a white burgundy. There's like a memory of bubbles to the wine, but none actually left. And the chard as a result jumps out a lot more than normal. Color wise it's lighter though which somewhat gives it away as being a younger wine than some of the other we were drinking. Interesting to try.

Opens with a phut rather than anything more energetic. Colour more advanced than a five star bottle three years ago. Not overtly oxidised, but advanced. Fine stream of small bubbles, nicely rich, buttery with some ginger, a hint of something more oxidative towards the finish. Rich and satisfying. (*)***

Lovely golden. Clear. Very light and subtle mousse. Rather tight and shy nose in the beginning (I think partly due to the temp) which opened up into a lush rich unctuous bouquet after abt 1 hour. Lots going on here - apricots, honey, hint of ginger, butter cookies. Could lose myself in this for sure. Initial taste was very dry, typical of Pol. Much drier than the DP 90 that we had alongside. This went better with the Jap food though. But over time, just as it did with the nose, the palate filled out, gained sweetness, and had a really lovely mouthfeel. Coupled with the drier finish, this was very enjoyable indeed.

Zesty, fresh, super concentrated acidity balanced with toasted aging notes. Great Champagne. 93-94
