Certainly a very different expression of Sancerre than I’m used to. Layers and layers of chalk, stones and salt. Notes of pear and apple, citrus fruit. Very tight, even on day 3, still much too young. Intense wine, none of the typical hay/grass notes that usually comes with with this appellation. Put aside for 5 years. Potentially grand vin in the making.

Fully ripe, with a white pear and green apple profile Has a cooler mineral profile on the palate. Quite polished and seamless. Nice, on thr sublte nuanced side and probably could use some to develope more complexity. Has an elegant floral nose.

Salut Montreal (Montreal Area): This pours light straw in the glass with flecks of green. The nose is just lovely, airy and elegant, showing cold cream, crisp pear, white flowers, mint, light asparagus, candied lemon peel, and a touch of honey. The palate is equally fantastic with precise medium plus acid, gorgeous purity of fruit, and an impressively long finish. Texturally it really caresses and is very well balanced. Just a pure joy to drink. All in all this bottle absolutely blew me away and was just a gorgeous experience from beginning to end. None of the aggressiveness I occasionally associate with the variety. Just incredible purity, minerality, texture, and complexity.

Sauvignon Blanc From Around the World, Tasted Blind (Casa de la Mata - Chicago IL): Double blind in SB tasting, alongside what turned out to be '19 Monts Damnés. These also seemed so classically Sancere. Lean and lemony with apple on finish. Bright, energetic, and focused, but just less concentration than Monts Damnés.
