My last bottle and, as usual, this is a really nice village Chambolle that, tonight is displaying darker red fruit, lots of earth and sous bois, asian spice, coffee and some white pepper. The chalky tannins on the fairly long finish are still firmish, but not at all obtrusive. Again, there's very good depth here for a village Chambolle and I wish I had more, because I think this has a long life ahead of it.

Service at Charlie Bird is efficient and engaging and after I ordered a bottle of 2005 Deux Montille Chambolle-Musigny ‘Les Babilleres’ and stuck my snoz in it to try, pulling a face that indicated trepidation (perhaps that’s just my normal face) our waiter immediately asked if something was wrong. I thought I detected a little bit of cork taint but it was only very faint and I declined his immediate offer of a replacement bottle. The wine was just ok with cherry fruit, plenty of earth and good density. By the end of the bottle I was wishing I’d called up the replacement off the bench as I’m sute some tca had marred what should have been a good bottle.

This is drinking very nicely with about 1 1/2 hours of double decanting. The fruit is darker tonight, with lots of earth and sous bois, some Asian spice and some subtle tarry notes have crept in. The tannins are still firmish on the admirably long finish. There's good depth and concentration here for a village Chambolle.

Good aromas and acidity. Low intensity. Simple at this moment
