At first this tasted like a cheap American Chardonnay (matte, no acidity), then it turned into an aged Riesling (white peach, petrol) and then landed as a sub-acid chenin (grassy, pryazine). Usually a big PL fan — thinking maybe this is a bit young and she needs to find her voice.

Unusual for Chablis and it’s hard to describe. I did get a roundness I don’t find in Chablis, and probably a result of the vintage. There is subtle citrus, nectarines, almonds, and ginger. Interesting and exotic and I do see a resemblance to Chenin Blanc.

Pattes Loup Chablis Vent d’Ange 2018 is not your classic, bone dry, tight, marginal Chablis. This one is rich and borders on opulent in the fruit profile, but still with fresh acidity and the telltale chalky minerality of Chablis. Yellow apple, peach, wax, chalk and orange blossom. Kinda oily, and Almost a Chenin-like feel to it (and then I’m sold, of course). Long, mineral-driven finish. Dig the style and producer.

Superb at its level. Acids frame the wine, but very good fruit complexity.
