  • As before but on the downward slope I would say. No value in holding onto these

  • I tried to open the bottle fifteen hours before lunch but the last third of the poor quality cork was firmly stuck to the neck of the bottle so it was necessary to turn to The Durand. Still, the pulverized cork (pictured) left too many particles floating and I decided to filter it and a double decanting while removing fine-grained sediments from the bottom of the bottle. A shame for the winery not to spend a little more on corks. Black core with watery, brown ruby edges. On the nose there are notes of blackcurrants, blackberries, graphite, leather, wet earth, with a classical complexity, Calvinist and austere, without real emotions. On the palate it offers a weak structure, a more watery texture than velvety, a dusty acidity and a merely decent length. In short another bottle of a second GCC wine in a great year. Nothing extraordinary, I'm sorry. Increasingly convinced that second wines in Bordeaux are not built to age.

  • Lovely, fully integrated, smooth as silk, still good color and gentle fruit after 20 years in cellar. Only knock is it’s kind of generic, and lacked complexity. Delicious.

  • Having a glassful of this in the winter months feels absolutely satisfying! Great colour, deep ruby, transparent! Fantastic aroma of roasted nutty, peppery black fruits! Texturewise, it is as smooth as silk, with black peppery fruits dominated, a medium finish. Charming and shinning at the moment!

  • Solid wine, a touch thin on the mid palate. But I've had much better 2000's recently in this price range. Given that I think that the 2000 first wine is a bit overrated, this makes some sense. It was probably much better 5-10 years ago, even though I like my wines with age.

Rockss and Fruit

(Reserve de Comtesse) It was really showing well. It really showed the depth of ripe fruit backed up by solid structure that makes this vintage so special. Great nose of cassis, kirsch, tar, red flowers, tobacco and slight green element that added to the complexity. Wonderful depth on the palate with great purity and sound acidty. Good presence in the midpalate. A very complete wine.
