Decanted for a few hours. Sous bois macerated cherry and a metallic component on the nose. Saline infused texture, red cherry, strawberry with good acidity and medium length. In a great spot tonight.

CRiBBS @ La T (La Trompette, London): Meaty, feral, sweet, sous-bois, decayed loveliness. I love Ponsot from this era. Drinking beautifully but life ahead given the sense of grip on the finish. *****

2002 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes. Light ruby, fading ruby rim; red and black fruit, gamey, light oak nose; low-mid acids; softening tannins; a little out of kilter; semi-long one-dimensional finish. Bad phase? 16.5 UC Davis scale, 91 other scales.

(Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes) This just was sensational albeit very very young. The nose was intense rasberry coulis mixed with spice dust, cinnamon and wet earth. The palate was velvety, seamless and concentrated with lots of power and richness which it wore gracefully. Lovely finish and lively fruit backed up by BIG acidity. This was essentially closed but still had enough there to be immensely pleasurable. Profound bottle of wine and one that will last easily 40-50 years in the cellar.
