  • This was unfortunately oxidized, hard to find much beyond soy sauce.

  • Hand carried back from Italy. Stood up for months, decanted off 2oz fine sediment, and received 2 hours air. Light ruby-garnet, consistent with nebbiolo at this age; aromatic, red cherry, wild strawberry, slightly herbal; palate is light bodied, red fruited, slight tamari, high tannin but very drinkable, high acidity; finish is medium-plus. This is elegant, well balanced, a joy to drink, and evolving positively with air, which is all a huge accomplishment in 2011. Lacking only a bit of the crazy complexity of the Cappellano 2011, but still hugely enjoyable in its own right. My only bottle, and this feels like the right time to drink it. 94

  • Thanksgiving Mondo Dinner 2023 (Atlanta, GA): Tasted double blind. The group nailed this as Barolo, but I went against the grain calling it a young Grand Cru Burg. due to the deeper cherry fruit. I should have picked it up on the tannic finish. Nevertheless, the fruit powers through the tannin. It is a very pretty wine.

  • Opened at Otto e Mezzo in Hong Kong. Decanted, and enjoyed over 2+ hours.

This definitely needed the air, but was drinking extremely well after about 45 minutes in. Great nose of red fruits - cherries, some strawberry and floral notes coming out with some coaxing - accompanied with a bit of spice. The tannins were definitely there, but they weren't grippy or unpleasant, just what you'd expect from a great Barolo at this age.

I'm perhaps being slightly harsh with the scoring as I don't think this gave me as much hedonistic pleasure as some of the other wines I've scored 92. That being said I can tell that this is very well put together wine and will definitely continue at this level for many years. Probable upside (though unsure how much) and would love to revisit in about 3-5+ years.

  • Even at this date it tasted fresh and lively, like a baby. So I would keep holding.
