Recent notes here are spot on, so I won't bother with detail. My first taste of mature nerello, this has aged beautifully and seems to be at the tail end of its window. Blind, I'd pin this as aged Pinot, light and elegant throughout, the finish is perhaps a bit thin and short. Excellent.

Romeo del Castello 08 Vigo, Purchased on release. Blackberry seed, black tea, mineral smoke, blood orange peel on the nose and something akin to dried violets, but darker. Tannins mostly resolved lovely black- fruited sucrosity. Excellent length. Fine vibrant acidity and layers of depth and nuance. Will go longer, but cracking right now. Wonderful bottle. Enjoyed w/ Christine M at The Alna Store.

A fine example of how nicely Nerello wines from Sicily age. At 12 years from vintage, this is drinking beautifully, with fully resolved tannins. Balanced fruit and all the seams in the right place. Touches of smoke and earth complement the overall structure. This producer is one of my favorites when it comes to Sicilian wines - both the Vigo and Allegracore are solid and consistent performers. A real pleasure to sip and great pairing with basic red meat dishes.

This was a late night addition so palate fatigue could have been a factor. Seemed more compact and easily the most mature bottle I’ve had. Nice ashy dried fruit flavors. Quite good.
