Thought this was a touch leaning towards gevrey in character - definitely not a bad thing as it was still very pretty. Nose evolved over time, at times showing whiffs of seaweed before reverting back to pure red fruit and mellowing out by night's end
Nose: 92-93 Palate: 91

This bottle of 2009 Joseph Drouhin Amoureuses is more evolved than the last few bottles I’ve had from the same case. Showing tertiary aromas of savoury cherry, game, and leather. Ageing faster than expected, yet it feels resolved and majestic, not “dodgy” ageing. Perhaps just another 2009 that is ageing faster than expected, will try another bottle soon. (90/100)

Followed for a couple of hours, the drama that the ‘09 Drouhin Amoureuses shows at its debut soon fades. The initial tension between the wine’s ripe black and red cherry and its spicy, finer elements is engaging. Yet as the fruit mellows, it never really finds that second stage; the spicy, earthy complexity doesn’t expand to fill that void and suggest a wine clearly on a promising trajectory (at least by the standards set by the great bottles of Amoureuses).

Darkish red fruit, cherry, underbrush and minerals on nose and palate. With two hour of air, it opens up beautifully with subtle and harmonious sweetness that is precise and weightless. Lovely. Clearly upside from here when its fully mature.

Flat out gorgeous. Quintessential les amour.! Red cherries, underbrush, spice all in elegant proportions. Actually liked it more than the 2002 Mugnier version I had a few years back.
