  • Wine Tasting Group - Cabernet Sauvignon & its Parents (Classic Wine Storage, Dallas, TX): 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc. Decanted off sediment for 4 hr in wine fridge, then back in bottle and drank 2 h later. Beautiful, elegant aromas of currants, herbs, and minerals. Elegant medium bodied palate with cherries, currants, herbs, leather and minerals. Excellent acids and mild tannins. Nicely balanced and concentrated with a seamless flow of flavors. Lovely with grilled steak.

  • cassis, red fruits, herbs, cedar, tobacco and leather. Acids keep the wine lithe, bright and light on its feet. Doesn't have the depth or concentration of 1995 but still really enjoyable.

  • It's been nearabouts exactly two years since the 1995 Première Cuvée totally knocked my socks off, but I found this one in the good-but-not-great category. It feels substantially more evolved than the '95 did then, pale-red-fruited and restrained and at least halfway towards seeing the fruit turn to an aged patina. It still has personality, though, with tar and stones underneath the mature wininess - and it improved over the course of the bottle, finding more harmony and silkiness.

  • As with the 1998 Première Cuvée, its slightly more evolved brother, this brand new release (!) reminds me something of young Barbaresco. Red flowers and cherries hit my nose; firm yet elegant tannins massage my cheeks while a very pure and clean expression of minerals and red fruited acidity rushes up the middle. Hints of cinnamon and clove mark the finish. It's almost impossible to find cabernet sauvignon this fresh, this elegant, from anywhere. This is still a very young wine, built to age, and will deepen with time. Will open my next bottle in 5 years.
