  • Impressively concentrated, crisp and absolutely delicious, this is Grand Crus Chablis in every sense of the word "Grand." Medium yellow/gold, freshly acidic and with no alcoholic heat (13%), it delivers aromas and flavors of ripe citrus, wet stones, coriander and stone fruits. Medium-bodied and showing excellent mid-palate density, it closes very long and crisp. As good as this is now, it will get even better. Bottle-aging most Premier and Grand Cru Chablis offerings is typically of great benefit...this one is no exception. Drink 2018-2024.

  • WSET Diploma Semester 1 Block B; 9/8/2014-9/11/2014: Pronounced nose of flint, smoke, yeast, brioche, mineral, wet stone, nut, vanilla/toast/oak, cheese/cream, nutmeg.
High acid, Med+ body, pronounced notes of cream, smoke, flint, stone, lemon, orange.
    Long finish. Outstanding wine.

  • Intense lime green color with moderately deep yellow hue. Pretty powerful, dry and brooding nose with robust aromas of spicy wood, ripe apples, some yellow stone fruits, a little bit of butterscotch and a hint of vanilla. The wine feels rich, full-bodied and quite weighty on the palate with dry, focused flavors of spicy wood, pronounced chalky bitterness, tart Granny Smith apple, butter, some cooked cream and a hint of caramel oak reminding me of Tawny ports and Setubal Moscatels. The acidity doesn't feel particularly high, so the wine is lacking a bit of that tense character typical of Chablis, but at least it feels structured and balanced. The finish is very long, pretty acid-driven and complex with dry flavors of quite pronounced toasty oak spice, cream, some ripe red apple, a little bit of chalky minerality and a hint of nougat.

A big, burly and rather oaky Chablis. If served blind, I'd never guess this as Chablis; it tastes like generic Bourgogne Chardonnay with rather little fruit, pretty high acidity and too much oak. There might be some characteristics typical of Chablis here, but I feel they are pretty much obliterated by this heavy oak treatment. I've never been fan of excessively oaked Chardonnays and in my opinion Chablis wines are so delicate they very rarely take new oak well. This wine might appeal to those who like oaky whites, but for me this wine pretty much misses the point - it is too oaky to be enjoyed as a fresh and delicate Chablis and it is too light and lithe to be enjoyed as an oaked Chardonnay. The wine might turn out pretty terrific with enough age, but in its current form the wine really isn't my cup of tea.

  • Westchester Wine School Premium Burgundy Tasting (Mamaroneck, NY): Drank at WWS tasting blind vs. Gilbert Picq 1er cur Vosgros. Pale straw color, very steely minerality, acidic with some bitterness on the back end. A big bigger, fuller and rounder than the 1er cry Vosgros, good fruit level and nice length. Two enjoyable chablis, both a bit on the young side and showing their very chablis-like tendencies. Nice way to begin a long nite of burg tasting.

  • Vindredi (Bellevue, WA): Tasted blind. A bit "solvent"-like initially, this was quite round and soft, with a very saline note. Lower acid and medium weight body. Compared to others in the flight, I found it a bit uninteresting.
