We used to love Pacific Rim White Flowers brut, but this last case has yielded several bottles that we have not loved. This one yielded only a slight hiss upon popping the cork. No, popping is not even the right word. It was more like giving up the cork with a whimper. I used to not understand how this wine could not be more popular. But now it seems as though the quality has taken a step back.

Tasted at the masterclass at the 2015 Canberra International Riesling Challenge. Developed nose, with toast, kerosene, aged cork notes, plus some analdehydes, on top of lemon and yellow stone fruit. Quite a tropical fruit palate - pineapple and sweet yellow peaches. Acidity is disjointed and dominates the finish. Equal last of 5 US Rieslings tried in the bracket.

My understanding is that they have they have switched to methode champenoise for the secondary fermentation. We bought a case of this from the winery because we have loved this wine in the past. For some reason, it just doesn't seem as good to us. We always buy the brut. This just doesn't seem to have the same verve and pizzaz.

Deep gold in color. Fine bubbles and quickly fading white mousse. Faint nose of apple? White peach? Apply palate with a slight bit of bread. Not as stern as a Sekt, but pretty close in style. A worthy effort.
