  I realise that I've given a very high rating to this wine, but after the disappointments of New World wines at twice the price lately I wanted to make a statement. A stunning nose of old leather and boot polish with lashings of floral overtones delivers perfectly on the palate. Lots of acidity and tanins suggest that this has many years left in it. Each sip offers a different flavour experience which fills the mouth and persists for minutes on end. I'm a huge fan of NdM's and believe it offers some of the best value for money to be found anywhere (it suffers from comparisons to the nearby and much more famous Chiantis and Brunellos, as well as having to overcome confusion with the rather coarse and unpleasant Montepulciano d'Abruzzo). This is fabulous stuff! A great vintage with many years of development ahead of it.
