Thick and rich this most likely originally was a jammy monster that has mellowed with time. Definitely not light on its feet, this is heavy and extracted. Regardless this is a beautiful wine that probably was at peak 5 years ago. Dark plum fruit, currants, nutmeg and a 30 second finish. On another note this was opened at 3pm but showed it’s best at 8 pm which was somewhat surprising.

Decanted 2 hours. Medium body, rich complexity but not super full. After 3 hours+, got better and the richness really came through with a great tobacco/coffee finish.

Realm Cellars Wine Dinner (JP's American Bistro, Minneapolis): WOTN for me by a narrow margin. Huge, ripe nose of cassis and red raspberry. A touch less primal than the other 2003s, this had a lovely velvety mouthfeel and a thick wall of tannins on the finish.
