  • In the nose plum and dark, deep forrest fruits with an oxidised layer like Madeira. On the palate plum, dark cherries, coffee, creamy and very sweet vanilla. Limited and very mild tannins; medium acidity. The taste has elements of Marsala. The significant sweetness compared with the limited acidity leaves the impression of lack of balance. Good thing though: Theres is no sign of the typical green tomato stem that usually characterises wines from Chile.

  • Opaque, deep purple to black red color. Open, extracted - but not jammy - nose with obvious aromas of crushed blackcurrants and blackcurrant leaves, supported by nuanced aromas of peppercorns, allspice, blackberries, some bell pepper and a hint of loam. After getting some air, aromas of cocoa, dark chocolate and savory wood emerge. Ripe, but not overripe flavors of dark, pruney fruit, allspice, peppery spice, dark cherry and ripe blackcurrant. Nuances of vegetal greenness and some sweet oak in the background. Quite heavy on tannins, but the tannins are ripe, smooth and easy, giving the soft and glossy mouthfeel some gravitas without giving it any actual bite or astringency. Overall quite extracted, structured and youthful wine without getting too much into that overripe, overextracted, overoaked and flabby territory. Long and quite warm finish with flavors of tannic bitterness, peppery spice, blackcurrant leaves, some sweet wood, a little dark cherry and a hint of tannic grip.

An easily approachable, big Chilean red, but still not sporting too much of anything. Surprisingly balanced effort and even though the wine is obviously a CS-heavy red blend from new world with its ripe fruit and pronounced blackcurrant aromas, the wine is surprisingly enjoyable. Nothing of real interest, but definitely from the better end of the 10-15€ Chilean red wine spectrum. A good buy at 14,49€.

  • Eight bones on closeout it's fairly priced: a completely drinkable mid-weight red that nearly everybody will be able to choke down; will not buy again

  • PnP consumed during one hour. The first glass was tight, nearly unyielding. By the last glass it was flabby and without any sense of structure, place or grape. Years ago, this was a fairly reliable quaffer.
