  • Very strong barnyard nose. Thin, but a decent finish. Blackberry and bittter cherry. Savory elements fine, not enough fruit. Mouthfeel just not there. Good minerality at the core, though. Decent QPR.

  • My trip through (relatively) inexpensive Burgundy Village and 1er cru wines via auction continues. This one is on the better end of the pinots I have had so far. Nice varietal characteristics. Good color and nose. Good minerality and depth. As most others so far, lacking fruit and finish compared to a really good pinot noir. Update on hour two: Improving with time and air. A little fuller mouthfeel and good structure. Finish improving. Fruit starting to appear. If this was mixed in with a number of Oregon pinots in the same price range ($20 or less) it might place in the middle of the pack.

  • Seriously good for a bourgogne at this price. Barnyard with nice mid-palate acid. A very little fizz that just proves it's young and vital. Of course, it's absurd to talk about table wine that costs ~$25, but it's the brave new world of Burgundy. And at that price, you're not going to get anything much better.

  • Hidden Gems (Farpointe Cellar): Really chalky and mineral-driven on the nose, with violets and dried cranberry and currants playing a backup roll. The palate had the stone flavors as the nose and great acidity. The fruit seemed more like fresh red fruit, as opposed to the dried ones on the nose. It finished with a lovely rose petal taste.
