  • The (Temporary) Return of the Golden Weather: Autumn 2021 Visit to Central Otago: From my cellar, bought on release. Under screwcap. Served double blind to friends knowledgeable about Burgundy and New World Chardonnay. They all picked the Block 2 as white Burgundy of about 12 years age. Smoky and citric with gravelly minerality, pears and nectarines. Also, some blanched almonds. Attractive bright acidity. Good fruit, concentration and balance. Vibrant acidity but the fruit to match. Some nice evolution. Drink over the next 10 years. At our tasting, Blair said that the 2009 was a product of a cooler vintage with good acidity and 10-15% new oak.

  • A brilliant, cool climate NZ Chardonnay. Under screw cap. Pale gold. A 'cool', breezy bouquet of limes, green apples and greengages, also creamy vanilla, oyster shell and wet limestone. Showing flinty popcorn reduction and a lick of spicy oak. On palate, it's clean, pure and intense with fresh, persistent acidity. The green, and some yellow, citric and orchard fruits translate to the palate but with real fruit weight and volume. Dense and structured, showing - at 10 years of age - some development. Both reductive and some oxidative elements. Mealy, tactile, vanillin, creamy and mineral with blanched almond and cashew. Some pineapple, rock melon and more exotic fruits. Real mouth presence and excellent length. Drinking very well now, but no hurry needed. Drink in the next 10 years or so.

  • lean green nectarine on almond meal, spicy oak, super Flint and struck match. Fruit flows over graphite rocks. Long and strong! Magic wine.

  • Light green / yellow, the nose is fairly ripe with hints of pineapple, apricot and citrus high notes, it's also showing some signs of development in quite an attractive way. There's still a decent amount of acidity in the mouth and more of the slightly tropical ripe flavours before it finishes clean, long and with a bit of mealiness

  • From 75cl screwcap. Light golden yellow with a distinctive green tinge. From the first sniff to the final tingle, this wine is a lyrical ode to super-ripe lime fruit. Sure, there's a lot of other stuff happening along the way, but the light-footed, honeyed sweetness, airy minerality and fleet acidic grip towards the end of the mid-palate all defer to the Great Green One. A fabulous NZ Chard, providing immense pleasure right now (and probably good for several years to come). Despite its heavier (14%) alcohol, IMHO considerably superior to the 2008. 91P
