Notwithstanding the overripeness and intense alcohol here, there are actually some pretty floral notes mixing into the dominant vanilla oak. High octane for sure, syrupy and port-like, unpleasant.
Old note - Earth, stone, wild fruit, fig, forest floor? Beautiful on the palate. Tastes different than it smells. Port like on the palate. Tinge of sweet fruit. Dark ruby red, herbs, dried flowers. Mind blowingly complex. Deserves the hype for sure. Do different, wild blueberry, black cherry. Goes on FOREVER.

Eh!...(Could this have been flawed? Don't think so). Nothing spectacular, a bit watery and unimpressive. Decent fruit, cherry, dark berries but not balanced or harmonius. High alcohol was apparent. I'd skip.

Nothing technically wrong with this wine, but still not an Erasmus fan. It was a huge wine compared to the Saffredi. The nose had a touch of candied cherries, but no complexity. The palate gave a quick burst of sweetness up front, then this giant tannin cotton balls filled your cheeks, followed by acidity and a flat finish. Just not enjoyable.

Another Saturday at Chevalier...Mostly Blind Rhone Varietals (Chevalier Fine Wines - Chicago IL): Tasted double blind. Came across as a ripe while well balanced modern-styled wine. Good depth and the structure to withstand the vintage's ripeness. Still nicely fresh.
