  • PnP on a lake Friday night

-color:ruby verging on garnet, there is a little age on this bottle as the edges are showimg a tawny brown.
-Body: medium light to medium body
-Aroma: deep cranberry and raspberry, a good dose of barnyard funk, the Brett is showing through, crunchy cranberry keeps showing through, dried mushroom specifically dried shiitake,
-Palate:mushroom on the front end with tart cranberry and raspberry coming after. There’s a iron dimension that’s verging on blood. The zing of cranberry lingers for a medium finish of 10-15 seconds. Tannins are medium minus to medium by the acidity is medium to medium plus and keeps going.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this wine as I bought it for a $10 clearance when a local restaurant was clearing out their cellar. However with this earthiness and crunchy red fruit, I’m pleasantly surprised especially for $10.

  • This wine was opened (not decanted) and serially tasted over four hours. Medium ruby robe with red rim. Throughout the tasting time frame, the nose remained somewhat muted, with light notes of raspberries, roses and earth. The nose additionally shows a tolerable amount of brett. Light-to-medium-bodied on the palate, with tart acidity and medium dry tannins. The flavors are red fruit-dominated. The middle palate thins a bit while the resurrected finish is tart, astringent and short-to-medium in length. At this point in time, the wine seems disjointed. Perhaps it will improve with short-term cellaring, but there is certainly no guarantee of such improvement (given the fact that it currently seems out-of-balance). Drink 1/13-12/17.

  • 2009 Burgundy Tasting (Park Hyatt - Washington, DC): Open for business! Good notes of violets, red florals, and berries. Good acidity, but incredibly, this is not closed down.
