  • Thought it was time to put my remaining 09 Cornas out of their miseries. Colour - pale purple. On the nose, red fruits, some forest floor - a little muted perhaps, but clean as a whistle. On the palate - lovely acidity, berries, a lovely core to it and a hint of sour cherry on the finish. A shot of electricity as one can get from Cornas if one is lucky. There is, though, a kind of muddiness in the middle that is all the more saddening because of the promise the components of the wine seem to offer. “It’s not the despair, I can handle the despair, it’s the hope I can’t stand”.

If you’ve got em, drink em.

  • Wonderful cool weather Syrah to go with lamb shanks. Drinking well with a long life ahead. (92)

  • This was quite closed on opening and only gradually began to show itself with time and air. The nose is all dark berry fruit and mineral--like wet granite--but never really seemed giving and expressive. The palate started off thin with obtrusive tannins, but the fruit quickly filled out and brought this into better balance. There's a hint of mature fruit at this point, but I think this could use more time to allow the structure and fruit to harmonize better. The style seems pure and direct, and I'm hopeful that some additional age will see positive development and allow the wine to be more expressive. If I had it to do over, I would decant this for an hour or more.

  • On opening and splash, blackberry and powerful florals exploded from the glass, but this was boom and quick bust - the nose evolved to some muddy forest floor and wet stones within 5 or 10 minutes. Palate had nice berry compote and good acidity, a long peppery finish, and chewiness that built with time. Not bad for sure, but hoped for better. I waffled on whether more time would help or not - finally settled on a solid ‘maybe’…
