Saw this on auction for cheap and figured what the hell, I like Joseph Swan wines and while I have no idea what to expect from a 17% Tannat with 14 years of age on it but hey could be fun.
And fun it was. Pours deep ruby with slight bricking. On the nose a ton of fruit and unsurprisingly noticeable alcohol. On the palate a just massive concentration of slightly raisin-ed fruit, some heat but really surprisingly little (less than I often get in a young CDP) but surprisingly significant acidity to hold it all together.
I liked this more than I thought I would have. The acidity saves it for sure. If you have any I’d be surprised if there is too much upside from holding but wasn’t falling apart.

This is a very special wine. Great nose, huge fruit and long finish. Waves of fruit and spices keep hitting you. A tad hot from The high alcohol but oh so tasty. Did as an after dinner wine with chocolate. It was perfect.

17.0% alcohol. Massive wine. Big and rich, with a dark, dark red color. Nose does go a little port-like if you aren't drinking it with grilled meat. But, boy, it's a nice accompaniment to some tri-tip. Like a massive Zin but with more structure and acidity. Ripe, lush, and very fun. B+

Absolutely perfect with some barbecued steak. A little fire from the high alcohol, but the huge fruit nicely balanced. Great wine.
