This was in long decant mode, three hours before it was tried and consumed over a three hour period. Air is this varietals friend. The nose had some serious funk going on after the three hour mark, with fruit taking a back seat to a deeply expressed savory element of earth and forest. The palate began with a vigorous slap in the face of nothing more than tannins and dirt, which over time in the glass moved over to blackberries, dark licorice and earth. This is a somewhat unique drinking experience, with an interesting depth of character outside the norm for several hours before becoming more tame and palatable. Cellar time is called out for above and beyond what I gave this bottle the opportunity to take advantage of. Fumin is a varietal for the keen observer looking for a different drinking experience.

Fumin bottling, not gamay. Just amazing depth. dark, dark, red color. deep red fruit profile with terrific acidity and snap. swirling, lively aromas and deep, long finish. execellent food wine. don't know what will happen to this with age, but I gave it a good 8 hr. decant and it was a pleasure to drink.

No formal notes, but this was popular with the crowd. Would buy again.
