Community Tasting Notes (2)

  • Previous to now it has always shown as a decent but unspectacular wine. When the butter and oak aren't poking out it's always two points to the good in my book. The interesting thing is that with this bottle - what happened? - the wine had developed some nice earthiness and complexity without losing the fruit that was left. Dare I say a little white Burgishness setting in? Much better than I expected.

  • First bottle out of a case acquired directly from the winery in February 2003 during their President’s day sale. Great price - $70 for a case + $15 shipping + CA sales tax. We had it during a dinner with friends, low-key, cheap Italian food. It was chilled before serving. It opened up some during dinner but did not develop significantly. There was nothing really notable about the nose, but certainly nothing objectionable. Nice balance of acidity, oak and butter, okay but not great fruit and not a whole lot of complexity. On the whole an unassuming, easy-drinking wine that works well for dinners with my friends that aren’t terribly experienced with wines. It’s definitely better than what they usually drink and not very expensive for me. It should also work well for entertaining by the pool this summer.
