Wonderfully balanced with a complex nose. Sweet notes of camomille and apricote with a pleasant creaminess to it. Unfortunately the wine quickly deteriorated over time becoming quite one-dimensional

A perfect bottle shared at Craft with Omar, Les and Larry. Quite tight at first but after an hour in the decanter it really began to show itself with delicous dark black fruits acompanied by utterly complex notes of soy, smoked game, bouillon and black truffles. Clearly a more structured vintage of Cheval but just a classic firm expression of the vineyard and it has many years of life left. Just a gorgeous aged St. Emilion.

A private dinner (Amsterdam): Château-bottled, excellent condition, impeccable provenance. Amazing power and richness, excellent depth and wonderful weight of fruit, wonderful sweetness, big, tannic, excellent Cabernet Franc typicity and spice. A truly great 1948, incredibly vigorous at 65 years of age.

Cheval Blanc Vertical ‘Chez Elke’ (Hotel Hohenzollern, Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler): Chateau bottling. Irish moss candy, herbs, slightly lactic, apricots, incredibly balanced. While the 47 gained a lot with air this was ready right off the bat and lost slightly with air

From magnum. Monolithic. Largely fruit driven palate with some soil and tar. Required some air time to fully reveal itself.
