Blind Tasting - Rhone Varieties (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): Tasted blind: Bright ruby-cherry color in the glass. Aromas of broiled meat, smoke, raspberries and plums. The palate shows flavors of smoke, plum skins, blackberries and graphite. Fine-grained tannins, a bit less than medium acid, but it's still balanced. Cranberry, meat and iron flavors linger on the finish. Guess: 2009 Southern Rhone grenache blend. Turns out I've tasted this wine about 18 months ago and didn't like it very much. Maybe it's the age, maybe it's bottle variation, but this wine was very nice.

Let this one decant for a full 8 hours. Deep nose, musky, tons of cocoa. Also has an undefinable veg/flower component to aroma. Mouth is dark fruit, some dusty cocoa, with a nice medium acidity. Superb food wine. This wine is an absolute steal at 13.

Stunning value for a wine! Nice nose. Multilayered fruit and musk. Palate is thin-med with little tannins with a reasonable ABV of 14. Great pizza, pork, summer red.
Weygandt hit it out of the park with this one....again, such an immense value for a everyday drinker.

Deeply colored with an interesting brown to the rich purple hue. The edges show no signs of brick; it's just an interesting color. Meaty nose with some gluey, roasted grain notes when first open. Black pepper and subtle rosemary, lemon, and sage. Lovely richness on entry with a soft weight that is surrounded by pretty red fruits and nicely bright acidity. The finish is long with lots of peppery spice and sweet licorice that linger and warm the back of the throat. This wine has great flow along with is plush fore-palate, making it very easy to drink. The nose is not a knockout by any means. I'm not sure if it smells of Pine Sol, like a taster below remarked but there is something impure on the nose that eludes me. Don't let the low score fool you, I enjoyed this wine. Great balance on the palate.

Earth and spice on the nose. A full bodied earthy with dark fruit (cherries?),licorice, tobacco, and a touch of spice. Good level of acidity and some tannins.
