  Ramonet Dinner (Park Palace, Grand Park Hotel): Rather disappointing for a 2002 1er Cru. I thought it was a well made new world at first. Nose was nice enough - lots of hibiscus, rose water and some candied cherry notes with a dusting of earth. It grew rather sticky sweet after some time though. Much the same on the palate, some clean acid, but all sweet cherry-flavoured with not much complexity to speak off. Still, decently balanced with a firm, rubbery grip. Finish was nicely clean but a little short of power - more lingering quietly than impressing. Simple, decent, but I would really expect a little more.

  Opened to a fanfare of spicy fruity chardonnay, but then seemed more muted and a touch of sulphur became more apparent. Nevertheless, very attractive.
