I really enjoyed this Bourgogne. It reminded me of the great tasting I did in France this past fall. Unlike many Bourgogne wines, some of Grand Cru class, this pinot was very approachable. It has a bright nose with excellent fruit. It was not highly nuanced, but did show nice variation of nose as I went through the bottle over 2 nights. I am beginning to think I have found my center in Bourgogne, which is to avoid most of the overpriced Grand Cru, and stick with Pommard 1st Cru in the $50 to $80 range. I have never been disappointed by these wines, whereas I have had too many disappointments with the Grand Cru's I am willing to afford.

Maison Champy 2008 and 2009 Wine Tasting (Maison Champy - Beaune): Tasting at Maison. Bright red cherry and strawberry start, never would have thought Pommard if smelled blind. More "Pommard" on palate with assertive tannins right now slightly hiding the bright fruit. Moderate length.

90-91 Medium to lighter weight for a pommard but with good concentration. Crunchy red fruit and a long finish.

I like it but it is a little odd. Dusty nose and front flavors remind me more of Bordeaux. Good just a little different.
