Exactly ready. Surprisingly light color, brownish ruby but transparent. Still tanic after 43 years. Fruit still strong. Only the very early rumblings of that softness you get with very old wines. Strawberries and earth. Stunning.

Initially rusty water; with time some cherry and licorice; later smooth lean raspberry with sweet soft finish.

White Truffle & 1971 Nebbiolo Dinner (Chez Goldberg, Greenwich Village, NYC): [Opened at 3pm, then decanted around 6pm. Tasted around 8:30pm.] Gorgeous Barolo. Lovely, nuanced floral nose of red fruit and tar. Expanse and complex in the mouth. Long, elegant finish. Drinking beautifully now.
