  • A magnum taken to Naramata to serve with friends and my sister. Served with a Tuscan inspired meal I cooked.

Surprisingly dark red. Intense plum, earth and spicy black cherry nose. Dry dense earthy plum and cherry flavours and a rich dry finish.

I thought some age would round this out but it is an atypical San Marcellino.

  • DnP. Dark mature red, yellow edged, 5.5. Seductive mature bouquet, loads of tertiary stuff, sweetness from casks. Well balanced palate, m-T, m-A, m+B, ripe red fruits, long spicy finish. Drink now-onwards.

  • Firm and fairly unyielding in a good way. Just lovely structure with a dark, brooding core of acids and fruits that seem too young right now. A beautiful drink. Fantastic Chianti. Pure and righteous keep or hold very very good with enough air this is impeccable Total wine Congratulations Marco

  • I love this producer. Never had a bad one. Great wine at a reasonable price. Absolutely lovely, if you are a Chianti drinker. Top notch!

  • I was worried about this wine when I first opened it, a blast of toasty, almost dilly new oak had overwhelmed whatever fruit remained. And I recall how voluptuous this wine was in its youth, lots of baby fat, and at a time when I was more forgiving of stylistic differences than I am today. With some air, the fruit opened up and was much deeper and more complex, and the oak receded, to some extent. But the overwhelming reaction was a hot vintage that had too much oak influence and was not the way I like to enjoy sangiovese, even if well-made given those circumstances. I'm curious what the house style has become more recently, as I can't recall having any of these recently.
