My third of three, confirming some heavy variability among these bottles. The first was advanced to the point of being raisiny, and the next showed beautiful power and grace. This one sat somewhere in between, more developed than the preceding example but not tired. The caramel notes reminded me of a mature Right Bank Merlot. Some licorice and cinnamon accompanied the gentle black fruit. I didn’t detect much minerality this time, making the wine a bit one-dimensional for me. Still, pure class in the glass.

This was the second of three bottles bought at auction some years back. The first suffered from a saturated cork and was veering to raisiny, so when this clean cork was easily extracted, I grew cautiously optimistic. The bottle stayed open in the cellar for a few hours, and sure enough, when poured it became clear we were in for a treat. Powerful and clean aromatics of black fruit, licorice, cinnamon and saline. Concentrated black fruit, some mocha and leather, glycerined and irresistible. I couldn't detect much oak, and the wine did not come off as extracted. Fingers crossed for my third and final bottle.

Intense nose of very ripe fruit, plum, yet with refined notes of herbs, dark berries, and iron. Quite nice on the palate with medium acidity and flavors of red fruit, sweet berries, leather, and tobacco. Tannins are fine and integrated, but present an interesting backbone. Usually, this would be a too big and ripe wine, but I do find it quite elegant, especially on the palate.

Heat affected and/or advanced, leaving the fruit quite muted
