Dinner with the wine group (Zazie's, San Francisco): Stood up for weeks, decanted last 2oz with some sediment. Light-med ruby, slight bricking but overall youthful color; high intensity aromatics, red fruits, strawberry, even a bit jammy or macerated strawberries, a bit of deeper figs, some spice; palate is medium bodied, elegantly smooth, finely textured tannins which are well integrated, red fruited, medium-plus acidity; medium length finish. Honestly for a producer who uses 100% new oak in their grand cru, this seems balanced with a bit of polish but not overly so, red fruited, vibrant acidity, and overall extremely pleasurable! Perhaps the site-specific nature doesn't come through in detail, though I can't tell if that's the producer, the oak, or the relatively large nature of Clos Vougeot. Nonetheless, a solid wine that I'm very happy with for $100. Ready to drink now or over the next 5-10 years. 92-93 Tasted 4 hours after double decanting. This has evolved well and is nearly a wow wine. Beautiful aromatics, elegant red fruit, wonderful balance. Beautiful wine. 94-95

Clos Vougeot - Ech/Grand-Ech Side Tasting (Chicago): 96/99/02. Wide open and generous nose of macerated, jammy black cherry. Unctuous, forward fruit with just enough structure to hold it together. Drinking great now.

Clos Vougeot (Grands-Echezeaux / Southwest-side) Tasting (Hughes House - Chicago IL): In 96/99/02 vertical. Very Vosne-spiced with plenty of red and black cherry, coming across as slightly more rustic/ traditional than the previous Anne Gros and Méo-Camuzet flights. But still very now right now. Not quite as exciting as another bottle from the same case opened one year ago.

Inviting nose showing the ripeness of 2002 along with some remaining oak as one taster pointed out. Good, but not outstanding CV. Red fruit on the palate along with secondary earthy qualities. It's exactly what it should be but lacks the extra gear or dimension of top notch producers.

Clos Vougeot Tasting (Chicago): Singing on both the nose and palate. Aromas earth, smoke and spice interlaced with black cherry. Palate is supple with juicy, concentrated cherry fruit. Intense spice. Really good and in a zone. Very Vosne-like.
