"I'm not having a glass of wine; I'm having six. It's called a tasting and it's classy." (Chicago, IL): The table far preferred the 1998 alongside, but it wasn't so much that this was a slouch of a wine, but I found it far more structural, firm, and unyielding. There's definitely plenty of 2001 acidity here, and the tannins still feel a little grainy and tense. Though I didn't get a chance to revisit this after it got a good afternoon's worth of air, I'm bullish in the direction this would have gone.

Decanted an hour. Mid ruby to mid garnet at the rim. Blackberry and bacon fat on the nose. Densely silky. More red fruited on the palate. Good acidity. Mid length, nicely fresh. Excellent with a wing rib of beef. ****

Mine. Decanted for about three hours in advance in which the following elements were unphased by oxygen: cloying jammy fruit, Vitamin B6 and tire shop aromas. Like Warren and his Jaboulet, I could cry over the years this loser took up space in my cellar waiting for its perfect moment. (Important fact: this is the first bad Ogier I've ever had.)
This wine continues to impress with its dark fruit, leather, violet and game flavors. The color has lightened a bit to garnet but is still youthful. The nose is old school and wonderfully complex. The wine is almost prikly on the palate due to the rugged layers of extract and strong acid. Not for the faint of heart as this is burly. Thinking this is a good time to drink while there is more than enough substance to cover the strong acid core. If you like traditional Rhône Syrah, this is one for you. Me likey. (93)

Not as good as previous bottle, the evolved fruit and gamey profile seeming to have a slightly offputting ferrous element. NR
