Just a beautiful wine. My last bottle - and what a way to end! Plush mouthfeel, classic Napa floor flavor profile but just a little restrained, with all the elements in harmony. This bottle is why I buy so much Napa Cabernet!

Gemstone tasting graciously arranged by Al Buis. Tasted from Magnum. This was a rather awesome piece of Gemstone history opened tonight. In Magnum, it seems as though this bottle has done very little aging. It is a very powerful wine that has lost the sweeter front characteristics that the current releases had, which were tasted as well tonight. But the maturity of the black fruit shines through. Lots of chocolate on the middle of this wine. I was getting some sort of a dried herb and nutty component towards the Finish. This one is perfectly balanced. Ready to go!

Still drinking very well. Classic Napa Valley floor nose and nice flavor, but maybe a little disjointed with some pushy red fruit tartness that outweighs the plush mouthfeel and some earthy notes that are starting to come out. I have a few bottles left and will try giving it a bit more time.

On the nose this is classic Napa--lots of blackberry, black currant and cedar. On the palate it also shows some tart red currant and an interesting bitterness which is a nice foil to the inherent sweetness. Throw in a little smoky camphor on the finish. Alcohol is noticeable but not over the top. My final bottle. My recommendation--drink up!
