Community Tasting Notes (1) Avg Score: 86.5 points

  • Decanted for 90 mins. Intriguing plum meets chocolate peppermint on the nose, some old world hedgerow flavours; you can really smell the alcohol kick. Peppery attack gives way to a nice mid-palate, showing creamy oak with fleshy, concentrated dark fruits. Full bodied, mild alcohol spike but not as bad as you'd think after smelling it. The finish really lets this wine down: the oak takes over and an alarming lack of acidity gives an impression of flabbiness. A shame really as the nose, and palate are all solid. Not the best bottle out there for the price.

Day 2: Seems to have smoothed out considerably: alcohol has mellowed, structure is more convincing, finish is breathing nicely now the oak is not so pronounced. There is a slow roast tomato component on the nose and palate. Easily 2 points better than yesterday, my score splits the difference.
