  • Lovely stuff. Some white flowers on the nose; some diesel creeping in later. Sweetness on the nose, but less so on the palate (less sweet than a Loosen 04 Spatlese). Acidity seems fine, in contrast to reports of it being too low. Palate so refined and weightless. Shortish finish to start, but it developed later. Lack of complexity is only real criticism but did not mar enjoyment.

  • Not spritzy - as some bottles have been - and the better for it. Just absolutely lovely, clean Riesling. Not a great match for any of the food, but went fine with everything from amuse bouche to dessert.

  • Simple Series IV: Dave's Birthday (Victoria Peak, Orchard Central): A very good wine, but rather tight. Half-bottle, left opened for a good 36 hours before consumption, much better than the last bottle, but still not showing much. Very young this. Nose was much more open this time round. Tiny whiffs of petrol mingled with ripe apricot and peach fruit, a little earth and some caramelly scents, all very integrated and nicely knitted together. Lovely balance on the attack, with superbly integrated flavours of ripe lemons, tangerines, hints of savoury earth notes, some pineapples and a little rubber and a little spice all seamlessly welded together. Still a little tight I thought, with the flavours clenching up and thinning out a little past the mid-palate. I would have liked a bit more acidity here to lift the wine, but the balance was good nonetheless. Finish was longish too, and quite delicious, with mouthwatering lemons and a touch of white flowers. A real charmer all in all. Would be nice to try this again in 3-4 years' time.

  • Dinner with Oliver Haag of Fritz Haag (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck, Paragon): Rather tight, not giving much on the night. Quality was certainly here, but this needs some time to uncoil and open up. Nose was tightly-wound, showing primarliy honeyed notes, along with just bits of peach and apricot and a healthy whiff of botrytis. More botrytis obvious on the palate, with sweet, caramelly, honeyed tones along with ripe lemon flavours. Nicely integrated, well-balanced enough without quite being fresh, quite delicious, but somehow lacking the breadth of the other Auslesen on show. Finish was pretty decent, more sweetness here, with a sugary back-end. A nice wine, certainly good, but not great.

  • Riesling & Pizza (London): Much better, glorious shiny fruit, great ripeness, lacking a little acidic bite but V good.
