  • Lovely quarantine, how much I hate you. Last bottle from a case of six that I started drinking around the beginning of 2012.
Elegance on the nose with notes of freshly whipped cream, sour but at the same time with a sweet touch. Also memories of dry reeds, candied lemon rind and subtle salty aromas. On the palate it is creamy, balanced, long and tasty. A little wonder that has aged just to that point that I adore.
In short, and while acknowledging that it is a "low-row" wine, the hand of the producer and the magnificent vintage have, once again, done their job. A lesson learned on time for some.

  • I underestimated this wine in the early going, finding it dilute, loose, and woody. Now, 5 years after having tasted the last bottle, it is proving to be an outstanding Sancerre. Light, still greenish. Floral nuance and strong grapefruit rind without the more pungent varietal aromas. Light weight for Mellot, but layered for Sancerre without displaying any wood except for a whiff of vanilla that is far in the background. Crisp citrus, fine acidity, excellent length. Altogether satisfying and it makes the case for aging these wines, especially from classically structured vintages.

  • Beautiful nose: tangerine, cucumber, lemon polish, a pitty, piney bitterness. These food friendly qualities follow through in the mouth with gooseberry, and a grapefruit pit finish. Perfect with japanese style cucumber salad, and shrimp with a citrus butter sauce. This may hold another year or two, but really at its apogee now!!
