Tight and thin upon opening, but only 20 minutes later already showed subtle blackberry and leather that grew the next several hours. Some pepper midway through. Medium body, present tannins, at hour 3 became soft: leather and pepper was lost, replaced with herbal honey notes.

I found this bottle very classic in it's expression, and smooth with integrated resolved tannins. Love the cedar in the aromatics and the savory finish. Would pair best with smoked meat (pork) in my opinion.

I'm never sure what to make of this chateau. Tonight's bottle was no different. Some things I really liked-- the bouquet was engaging showing a very savory, minerally profile with Kalamata olives and iodine. But the palate was awkward with a bitterness, hard tannins, excessive acids. Other vintages have show similarly for me, and I've often given it the benefit of the doubt assuming/hoping it just needed more time. But a 2004 should be showing better than this. I saved the second half of the bottle and will try it again tomorrow.

More like the Pipeau I remember. Smoke and wet campfire on the nose. Pleasant and rich palate still showing some dark primary fruit. Not really showing any signs of age. Seems like it could last for quite a while more.

An acidic mess -- nothing to enjoy on its own.
