I have not tried Pinotage in quite a while, maybe a few years. My past experience has been clumsy, rustic, wines with an aftertaste that was unpleasant at best. So here I go wild and try one that I think is an 87 point wine. It probably is an 86, because it relatively simple, but I'm giving it an 87 because it is so complete, and unflawed. When you check their website, you discover they blend in some Viognier, and Syrah. Genius. This wine tastes great. There is only a touch of that smokey gaminess that so turned me off 15 years ago. This time it is an enhancement. The color is deep purple. The nose is gamy, like Grenache, but very much under control. The fruit on entry is really smooth blueberry. I would never have picked out the Viognier without reading the web site, but it takes no imagination to taste the influence on the palate. This wine is only medium bodied. It is extremely drinkable. There are lots of little things happening, like brown spice, charcoal, and vanilla, among others. There are not enough layers of acid and tannin for a bigger score, but this is delicious, and everyone should try some. The finish has some caramel coated blueberries.

Good body but way too much smoke. Wondered if they threw oak chips in the barrel. Didn't go for a second glass.

- Ruby color with medium forming legs. It's somewhat balanced with a light/medium body. Narrow texture with a short finish.
