In a really nice drinking window now. Well balanced Shiraz, dark fruit, plum aromas, some earthy edges, well rounded and balanced. Nicely integrated tannins. Pleasure to drink overall, but I am somehow missing the wow factor.

Under cork. An excellent cork too it must be said - tight as buggery to remove and with less than 1mm of staining at the base, despite being stored on its side since purchase. The wine seems to benefit from the excellent cork, with an underlying freshness to the dark berry and plum flavours, along with (just more than) a hint of coffee bean and char. Tannins feel well integrated, there is good overall balance and length but the wine began to tire on day 2, so suggest drinking well now.

Appearance: Bright and clear, it has deep ruby color, with garnet rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of black fruit of blackberry, blackcurrant and plum, spicy notes of pepper and licorice, oak notes of vanilla, mineral notes of earth, floral notes of violet, kernel notes of chocolate and roasted hazelnut, maturity notes of savory. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin of ripe and velvety texture, exhibiting medium (+) alcohol, medium (+) body and medium (+) intensity flavors of black fruit of blackberry and plum, oak notes of vanilla, kernel notes of dark chocolate, pungent spice of licorice and pepper. The wine has a medium finish. Conclusion: Very good quality Australian Shiraz with an intense nose showing high complexity, the wine has the power of the varietal typical from the country, but also exhibiting a finesse and balance that showcased the quality. Having a concentrated palate of good nice finish, this wine is ready to drink now though can benefit from further ageing of another 2-3 years.

Retailer tasting (Le Bouchon): Beautiful wine, a bit rustic, dark forest fruits, beautiful oak, leather, a touch of sweetness and also good acidity and pleasant bitterness and tannin. Really good.

Visits to Most of the Cellar Doors in Coonawarra; 7/21/2012-9/8/2013 (Coonawarra): Concentrated red fruit plus marzipan (French) and coconut (American) oak. Probably needs time as the oak is far too prominent to take it seriously.
