Sweet nose with white flowers, cardamom, and cherries. Woody flavors up front. Rounded. Relaxed fruit with hints of oranges. The real star is the racy acidity and the way it mingles with the woody notes on the finish.

Excellent effort for a village wine. Tasted alongside the 2009 Champy Volnay (Village), this was the more structured and ferrous of the two. There were oxblood, mineral and spicy notes in addition to the red and black fruits. The wife asked (she's new to Burgundy) "Do they use a different grape in Pommard, because this tastes more like Chinon than Pinot Noir". While not at all vegetal, she was right that it was a little more structured than your typical Pinot. I thought it was unmistakably Pinot, and a damn good one at that.

Dark ruby color. Fragrant nose. On the palate, ripe red fruit, with some strawberry overtones, rich, and a smooth texture with some remaining structure. A very enjoyable village wine which has the potential to improve further.

IPNC Lunches and Dinners; 7/26/2013-7/27/2013 (McMinnville OR): All black fruit with very good spice. Slightly firm, but with 2009's fat fruit that comes across as charming. Slightly firm, almost rustic, but open and balanced. Moderate length and intensity, very impressive overall for its level.

Decent structure, not very open yet, hard to say whether this can impress with more time.
